This is a great picture book created by Mikhail Baryshnikov the dancer and Vladimir Radunsky the illustrator. It's about a boy who is upset that while all his friends go out to play with their mothers, babysitters, fathers or even dogs, he has to keep a company of his Grandma, who has a habit of doing embarrassing things in public. "Every minute, every hour, every day of the week!"
As the boy begins recounting one week in his life with grandma, from Monday to Sunday, when they go for a walk, we learn how his thickset granny leaps over neighbors, imitates the dog (called Pavlov!) asleep with its paws in the air, and pretends to rollerskate (without having skates on!). "Why does she do this", the boy asks, becoming more and more irritated. Grandma's one-word answer always is "because..."! She finishes that sentence on the last page: "Because ... I -am-a-dancer!" That's why, we guess, people call her Mrs Duncan...
The authors are absolutely certain that it makes no difference whether you are young or old, skinny or plump... If you feel deep down that you are a dancer (an artist!), do not be afraid of expressing yourself, and life will be more fun!
