Alexander Pushkin is Russia's most celebrated poet. "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" is about love and betrayal, envy and forgiveness. It begins with "three fair maidens", who "late one night, sat and spun by candlelight"... The youngest of these three sisters marries the Tsar. Soon after that her jealous siblings decide to seal her and her then new-born son, Prince Guidon, into a barrel and cast them into the sea. Fortunately, the magical Swan appears out of the water to help the castaways...
