This audio CD contains two fairy tales one of which is Russian. It's "The Firebird", read by Susan Sarandon. The series known as "The Treasury of World Tales" presents broadcasts for children that were performed by accomplished actors and prominent musicians on the National Public Radio in the early nineties. So this release is a rare chance to enjoy the great "forgotten" recording.

...When an archer named Ivan brings a golden feather from the Firebird to the Tsar, he is ordered to present the entire bird or lose his life. Next, he is commanded to retrieve a princess from the end of the Earth for the Tsar to marry.

When Ivan himself falls for the princess, he - along with his companion, the Horse of Power - must find a way to thwart the Tsar...

The magical 25-minute long Russian folktale is a delightful treat. The CD comes with one more tale - "The Emperor's New Clothese" (read by Sir John Gielgud), which is about 22 minutes long.

Both tales are accompanied by the original music by Mark Isham.
