The Wizard of the Emerald City is a children's fantasy novel by Russian writer Alexander Volkov. The book is a loose translation/retelling of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The names of the main characters were changed (Dorothy becomes Ellie, and Toto - Totoshka), some elements of Baum's novel were removed, and some new elements were added. The book became quite popular in the Soviet Union and countries of the Eastern block, leading to five sequels.
