This is a nicely illustrated book retelling the story of Pinocchio in Russian language.

The author, Alexei Tolstoy, loved the story about the wooden boy with a big, growing nose when he was a child himself. Years later, when he became a prominent writer, he decided to write his own version of the story. He named the main character Buratino...

"Once upon a time an old craftsman Giuseppe lived in a small Mediterranean town. One day he found a log at the shore and carried it home deciding to carve it into something. But when he started the job, he suddenly heard a voice: "Ease off a bit." This frightened Giuseppe so took the piece of wood to his old friend Carlo.

He gave Carlo the mysterious log and said: "Take this log and make a wooden puppet out of it. Then teach it to dance, speak and sing, and you will be able to earn money, showing it to people." This is how the story about Buratino starts...

It's a fun book to read for a child age 8 - 10 and older.

Listeners of age 5 and up will enjoy the book, too, if the story is read to them by an adult.
