"Kolobok" is one of the most well-known Russian folk tales skillfully retold and illustrated for this book by Natasha Bochkov, and then translated into the English language.
In this Russian tale Grandpa asks Grandma to bake him a little bun, Kolobok. So she takes a couple handfuls of flour, adds some milk and sour cream, kneads the dough and makes a bun, which she bakes in the oven and then places on the window to cool.
Kolobok, however, got bored sitting on the window and rolled from the window down to the grass. Very soon he is rolling down the trail, meeting on the way a cute little bunny, a shaggy gray wolf and a big clumsy bear.
And all of them wouldn't mind to eat him, but the tasty, buttery-looking Kolobok manages to survive -- until he meets the crafty red fox. The tale keeps children wondering what is going to happen to Kolobok at the end.
