Uncle Remus, as you may know, is a fictional narrator of a collection of African-American folktales adapted and compiled by Joel Chandler Harris and originally published in book form in 1881.

A journalist in post-Reconstruction Atlanta, Georgia, Harris produced seven Uncle Remus books. This one, translated into the Russian language, contains eight of his popular animal tales.

Most of them are didactic, much like those of Aesop's fables and the stories of Jean de La Fontaine. Uncle Remus is a kindly old slave who serves as a storyteller passing on the folktales to children who gathered around him.

The genre of  these stories is the trickster tale. Brother Rabbit is the main character of the stories, a likable character, prone to tricks and trouble-making who is often opposed by Brother Fox.

In Russian language. Publisher: Tsentrpoligraf (Russia). Large format. Hardcover. 48 pages.

Printed on glossy, white paper. With great color illustrations!

Recommended for reading aloud to children age 5 and up, as well as for independent young readers.
