Two well-known fables are in this beautiful picture book - Aesop's "The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg" and the Buddhist "The Tortoise and the Geese".
The first fable warns about the danger of becoming too greedy and not appreciating what you already have in life. The huntsman in that fable is lucky to get a goose that lays a golden egg each and every day! The huntsman got rich thanks to his fortune, but he wants more, more, and more - which brings him (and us) to the sad, tragic ending of the story.
The second fable is about the joy of a long-time dream come true for the tortoise who is taken for a ride by the geese flying south. But she can't overcome her talkative nature, opens her big mouth, loses the stick and falls down to the ground. The journey is over! She loses it all in one moment... This fable may remind many Russians of "Frog the Traveler", a similar tale.
Beautifully illustrated in color by Jago and well-translated into the Russian language, the fables are certainly thought-provoking for both young bilingual readers and listeners alike.
